HTC seems to be getting back into the tablet game. And this time they will try Windows RT Blue to crack the new market.
ACCORDING to Phones Arena , HTC is Currently Busy Developing WinRT two tablets codenamed R7 and R12
I'd say koodos to HTC for trying new things. And good luck. Except that I really don't think they can afford the distraction.
HTC is already in a fight for its life against Samsung, and other Android competitors, and things are not going too well right now. They already spend all they can afford and more, to promote their One flagship, against billions Samsung earmarked for its Galaxy S4 smartphone. They cut Already Their R & D to barely sustainable levels and have Thousands of Restless employees .
And to open an entirely new product line now? The one where they have no good experience, and previously failed Flyer tablet? And to bet it all on Windows RT - a platform that already failed once, despite all the efforts from Microsoft, including Surface?
Unless there are some heavy Microsoft subsidies involved, this really looks like a pretty crazy move, bordering on suicidal. Usually I'd give the management a benefit of the doubt, allowing that they might see something we, outsiders, do not. But after HTC executive screw-ups over the last two years, I don't have much trust in their foresight. And even if Microsoft is paying a lot for these HTC WinRT tablets, so what? How much that cool billion helped Nokia with Windows Phone over the last year?
Maybe I am way too pessimistic about this. Maybe WinRT Blue and HTC tablets will be a roaring successes. And maybe I will become a King of Westeros someday. Stranger things have happened, they say ...
