Waterproof Sony Xperia ZR now official, lets you shoot Full HD video underwater

Sony has announced a brand new Android smartphone – the Xperia ZR, which can be considered an improved, waterproof version of the Xperia SP .

(The handsets have similar sizes:
 131 x 67.4 x 10.4 mm vs. 130.6 x 67.1 x 10 mm).

The Xperia ZR is IP58-certified, providing “the highest level of water-resistance”, and allowing users to “keep it submerged in 1.5 meters of fresh water for up to 30 minutes.” This, of course, enables seamless photo and Full HD video shooting underwater. Like the Xperia Z flagship (sold in several million units around the world), the ZR is also dust-proof.
The full list of Xperia ZR features includes:
  • HSPA+ connectivity, NFC, Android Jelly Bean
  • 4.55 inch shatter-proof HD display (1280 x 720 pixels)
  • Wi-Fi, aGPS
  • Bluetooth 4.0
  • 13MP rear camera (with Exmor RS sensor
  • HDR and dedicated key)
  • VGA front-facing camera
  • Quad-core 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro CPU
  • 2GB of RAM
  • 8GB of internal memory
  • MicroSD card support
  • And Sony’s Battery STAMINA Mode (first introduced on the Xperia Z).
As you can see in the photo above, the Sony Xperia ZR has four color versions: black, white, pink, and mint. It will be launched in various markets around the world before the end of June. Sony didn’t say how much the new smartphone costs, but it did unveil a few promo videos to keep our interest piqued.
