LG joins Firefox OS handset lineup with Fireweb

Mozilla's Firefox OS is out there on the scene, but it's yet to really make its impression felt. There are plenty of Reasons we can eat up with for why it's not bigger than it is, but let's face it: it's going to be an uphill battle for any of These upstarts platform to play with the big boys. At least one of the factors That May be keeping some users away from Firefox OS has been the hardware, none of it coming from from really big names.
Sure, there's ZTE, but that's hardly a household name in the West. Earlier This Year, we heard an LG exec discussing his company's interest in releasing its own handset OS Firefox , though I warned That We Might not get to see it until 2014. It looks like LG was more enthusiastic about this phone than we gave it credit for, and today we see the LG Fireweb go official.

Now, just because this is a major brand, do not let it have you thinking That LG is acerca to dial-up the hardware Might of the sort of lower-powered Firefox OS models we've seen to date. The Fireweb gets a 1GHz SoC, four-inch HVGA display, five-megapixel main camera, and 4GB storage. Even with Those meager specs, it does manage to improve on existing Firefox OS offerings, bringing an LED flash and auto-focus To That camera.

Fireweb is launching in Brazil for what works out to acerca $ 205 full-price, or $ 60 subsidized. While affordable, we wonder if that's still not too much; Already LG Androids sells in the same market for less than that.Source: Mozilla via: Engadget
