When they aren’t desperate to compete in the newly-revived “world’s
thinnest smartphone” contest, Chinese mobile device makers like to
experiment – with new form factors or pushing specs that ‘international’
brands haven’t deemed necessary yet (8 MP front cameras, anyone?).
So it’s no surprise then that we’re talking about a 6.5-inch “phone” today. A phablet if we ever saw one (or if something ever deserved that title), the upcoming Actwell i6000 has one thing going for it: size. And it’s the first 6.5-inch device to sport a Full HD 1080p touchscreen. That’s not difficult to achieve, since this is one of the first devices to have a 6.5-inch touchscreen that we’ve heard of, period. And higher resolutions are easier (and cheaper) to do in bigger screens, so for now HTC cramming the same Full HD resolution in the 4.7-inch panel of the One is a lot more praiseworthy.
But that doesn’t mean that the Actwell i6000 won’t find a niche of
its own, and won’t sell. The handset will also come with
It will be out in China in white and black in mid-June, but unfortunately pricing information is not yet available. The first set of images you see above (of the white i6000) are renders, while the second picture (of the black phone), as you may have gathered, is a live image of a prototype.
Obviously there’s almost no chance for the Actwell i6000 to ever officially make its way outside of China, but it’s always interesting to see what the Chinese makers are working on. And in this case, it seems to be taking ‘bigger is better’ to the extreme. So move over, Huawei Ascend Mate and Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3. Here’s the new king of phablets.via Gizchina here and here.
