NVIDIA Tegra 4 vs Qualcomm Snapdragon 800

CES exhibition this time was rich in new mobile processors, which are already in the very near future we will see in the recent smartphones from different vendors. NVIDIA showed a new version of its Tegra, now at No. 4, Qualcomm also updated its processors are not left behind, and Samsung, have submitted their 8-core Exynos.


With NVIDIA and Samsung are all more or less clear, but Qualcomm decided to change the name of its processors and simplify the storage of models and options. Now the most powerful processor Qualcomm will be marked 800-th series, middling receive the title number 600 or 400, while the cost will be 200-mi.
However, the most productive, I think, the most interesting, so let's leave it to them and stop comparing the short past solutions from NVIDIA and Qualcomm.


CPU & GPU
800-series processors can work in Qualcomm LTE-Anvanced-networks, that is, it is not even past LTE, but something of the future generation. In addition they will cope with any, even the new standard Wi-Fi connection. And quad-core processors from Qualcomm will accelerate to the frequency 2,3 GHz. And this is the first time when the NVIDIA Tegra 4 slightly pale, as its quad decision will not take as high a bar, and stops at around 1,9 GHz.
But the frequency of the processor - not the only indicator, which is worth paying attention. Now CES is recording devices that work with high-resolution screens. And it's not even FullHD 1080p, and only Ultra HD (4k).
We all know that NVIDIA has long and successfully produces powerful graphics solutions for desktop PCs, and that for mobile devices, but Qualcomm are specialized processors, so graphics cards with them is somewhat weaker. Tegra 4 is pumped with his beautiful 72 graphics cores. But the latest processors Qualcomm is hardly far behind. In the 800 and 600 series processors installed graphics accelerator Adreno 320, which is currently used in the Snapdragon S4 Pro. And this is quite a powerful and productive thing. With him, we know, for example, by Nexus 4.
According to Western colleagues processors Qualcomm easily pull video Ultra HD (4k) resolution. Moreover able without much straining and record video as such.
Energy consumption
Qualcomm told that their 800-series processors consume energy in two times less than the Snapdragon S4, which at this moment are in many modern devices. Does it increase the lifetime of gadgets? Complex issue. Probably not, since they will now be run at higher speeds and download large number of cores. But I want to believe that in this case due to the optimization of energy consumption, the lifetime of smartphones and tablets at least not decrease, and remain at the old level. Similarly, here is with Tegra 4, which is also the assurances of employees was less demanding to the battery, but more powerful and productive.
