Samsung Galaxy Note III could be launched as soon as July or August

In a post talking about how Apple may unveil its iPhone 5S and a cheaper iPhone model in Q3, Taiwanese website DigiTimes also mentions Samsung’s rumored Galaxy Note III, saying this could be launched in “July – August.”

That’s sooner than most of us expect, since previous rumors had it that the new Note would be unveiled in September during IFA 2013. But it’s also possible that the Note III will be among Samsung’s products announced on June 20, with a proper launch to follow in the next few months.

DigiTimes says the Note III:
  • Alongside the Galaxy S4 Mini
  • is part of Samsung’s plans to compete with Apple’s next-generation iPhones
  • And while at first a giant ~6 inch device like the Note III doesn’t seem to be a threat to any iPhone
  • In many ways it is. After all
  • Those who’ve bought the Note and Note II (pictured below) came from smaller smartphones in the first place.
Feature-wise:
  • The Galaxy Note III should bring a quad-core or octa-core processor
  • At least 2GB of RAM
  • A much-improved 13MP rear camera with optical image stabilization
Since DigiTimes has a hit-and-miss record when it comes to rumor accuracy, the “July – August” launch time frame for the Note III might turn out to be incorrect. We’ll live and see.
