HTC Butterfly S smiles for the camera ahead of June 19 unveiling. Butterfly 2 rumored for Q4

In six short (or long, depending on your perspective) days, HTC will hold an event in Taiwan, during which it will unveil the Butterfly S. We’ve known about this for a few days, but now we get the first leaked images showing the Butterfly S, courtesy of VR-Zone.
As you can see, the new Butterfly S will adopt the Butterfly’s design, and not the newer lines employed by the HTC One.
The Butterfly S keeps the original’s 5-inch 1080p Full HD display, and adds in BoomSound front-side stereo speakers a la the HTC One. That’s a welcome addition undoubtedly, however it’s about all we know for sure about this phone’s specs right now.

Previously rumored info had it also sporting a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 quad-core processor, an UltraPixel camera, a larger battery compared to its predecessor, as well as Android Jelly Bean and HTC Sense 5. How much of this will turn out to be true remains to be seen, but at this rate of leakage we expect to know everything there is to about the Butterfly S well ahead of next Wednesday, so stay tuned.
The HTC Butterfly has been big in Asia, with its Japanese variant even entering the Top 10 of sales for one week in December. Production shortages made it fall from grace soon after that, but it’s been back in the rankings ever since April. It’s quite likely that the slightly improved Butterfly S will only be sold in Asia.
That’s because apparently HTC is also working on a Butterfly 2 (no, not confusing at all…), which is to debut sometime during the fourth quarter of this year (so October to December) according to Focus Taiwan. Last we heard anything about the Butterfly 2, it was supposed to come in Q3. Now it’s been pushed back by a full quarter, it seems.
If the Butterfly S stays confined to Asia, then the Butterfly 2 may get a more global launch, but we’re simply speculating here. Obviously, we’ll let you know when we find out more.
