LG confirms Snapdragon 800 CPU for G2 flagship. Replaces Optimus brand with G Series for high end smartphones

LG today officially confirmed that G2 – the successor to its best selling Optimus G flagship is coming, and it will run on Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 800 CPU.

Their announcement also shows that LG is rethinking the branding of their high end products, and ditching the Optimus name in favor of the simplified G Series. They will likely keep Optimus for the lower end Android devices.
Some Korean sites also report that the new LG G2 smartphone will be announced as early as July. But late August/early September launch, coinciding with the IFA – a major Consumer Electronics tradeshow – is more likely.

• LG G2 should come equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 CPU (confirmed, obviously)
• 2GB of RAM
• 5” 1080p Full HD display 
• 13 megapixel camera – a pretty standard set of specs for late 2013 flagship

According to some hints from LG execs, LG G2 will also have “something different and something unique“, compared to other Android devices. What that thing will be I don’t know, but it might be related to the overall design of the device. Another set of rumors says that LG G2 will be incredibly thin, so thin that LG didn’t have a space to put any control buttons on the side of the device and moved them to the back.
LG also recently confirmed that they are starting mass production of flexible displays later this year, so there’s a chance that such display may make it to the new flagship.
